FPT and UOB Explore AI-Driven Banking Transformation Across Asia-Pacific

As banks across Asia-Pacific accelerate investment in artificial intelligence and modernisation programmes, partnerships between financial institutions and technology providers are becoming increasingly important. Regional lender UOB and global technology company FPT have now joined forces to explore how AI, cloud technologies and digital banking innovation can reshape banking operations and customer experiences across the region.

Singapore-headquartered bank UOB and Vietnamese technology firm FPT have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration opportunities in artificial intelligence, digital banking transformation and financial services innovation across Asia-Pacific.

The agreement was announced during the Vietnam-Singapore Tech Connect Forum and will focus on identifying opportunities to modernise banking infrastructure, strengthen digital capabilities and develop new financial services solutions across UOB’s regional footprint.

AI, Payments and Digital Lending in Focus

Under the partnership, the two organisations will assess opportunities across a range of strategic technology areas, including AI-powered banking services, digital lending, payments, embedded finance and cloud-based transformation initiatives.

The collaboration will also explore ways to enhance cross-border financial services capabilities and support broader ecosystem development across key Asia-Pacific markets.

By combining UOB’s regional banking presence with FPT’s expertise in artificial intelligence, automation, data analytics and digital transformation, both organisations aim to create scalable technology frameworks capable of supporting future banking growth.

Building an AI-First Banking Model

The agreement reflects growing interest among banks in adopting AI not only for operational efficiency but also as a foundation for new products, services and customer engagement models.

As part of the initiative, the two companies plan to establish an implementation roadmap, governance structure and pilot programme within the next 90 days to evaluate potential use cases and deployment opportunities.

The collaboration is expected to examine how AI can improve development productivity, accelerate platform modernisation and support the responsible deployment of emerging technologies across banking environments.

Expanding Regional Innovation Efforts

For UOB, the partnership supports its broader strategy of investing in emerging technologies, including generative AI and agentic AI capabilities, while strengthening regional connectivity for businesses and customers across ASEAN markets.

For FPT, the agreement further expands its presence in one of its key growth regions, where financial institutions are increasingly seeking technology partners to support large-scale digital transformation initiatives.

What this means for the industry

  • Banks are moving beyond AI experimentation and increasingly forming strategic partnerships to accelerate deployment at scale.
  • Technology providers are positioning themselves as long-term transformation partners rather than traditional software vendors.
  • Cross-border banking and embedded finance are emerging as major areas of innovation across Asia-Pacific.
  • AI, cloud infrastructure and automation are becoming core components of future banking operating models.
  • Regional banks are increasingly looking to combine technology modernisation with ecosystem-driven growth strategies.
