Community banks are increasingly moving beyond traditional deposits and lending to offer full-service digital financial ecosystems. By integrating investment capabilities directly into their banking platforms, these institutions aim to retain customer assets, deepen engagement, and compete with standalone brokerage and crypto trading apps. Freedom Bank of Virginia’s partnership with fintech platform InvestiFi reflects this shift, bringing stock, ETF, and cryptocurrency trading into the bank’s core digital banking experience.
Freedom Bank of Virginia has officially launched a suite of integrated investment tools through a strategic partnership with Delaware-based fintech InvestiFi. This move allows the community bank to embed wealth management capabilities directly into its existing digital banking environment, enabling customers to trade stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies without leaving the bank’s app. Founded in 2001, the Fairfax-headquartered institution is modernising its traditional commercial and personal banking offering to meet the growing demand for all-in-one financial platforms. By bridging the gap between everyday banking and asset management, Freedom Bank aims to increase client engagement and prevent capital flight to third-party brokerage apps.
The technical integration allows for seamless funding directly from a customer’s checking account. Unlike traditional brokerage transfers, which can take several days to settle, this embedded approach enables near-instant liquidity to capitalise on market opportunities. Beyond active trading, the platform provides guided investing and automated portfolios, allowing users to set financial goals and automate their wealth-building strategies. To support informed decision-making, InvestiFi has also embedded financial education resources directly into the user interface, helping clients navigate the volatility of the equity and digital asset markets.
The partnership follows a period of significant executive and portfolio growth for InvestiFi. In 2025, the fintech strengthened its leadership team by appointing Todd Clark as President and COO and Patrick McNally as CPO. Since then, InvestiFi has rapidly expanded its footprint among community financial institutions, securing partnerships with Thinkwise Credit Union, Truity Credit Union, Sunstate Bank, and Day Air Credit Union. This trend highlights a growing movement among regional banks and credit unions to adopt “fintech-as-a-service” models to remain competitive with national banking giants and specialised trading platforms.
For Freedom Bank, this milestone is about more than just adding new features; it is a strategic effort to become the primary financial hub for its clients. By offering a secure, regulated environment for both traditional banking and modern investing, the bank is positioning itself for a new generation of digital-native customers. This milestone confirms that the convergence of community banking trust and agile investment technology is a key driver for retention in the modern financial landscape. As the rollout continues through 2026, the success of the initiative will be measured by the adoption rate of these tools across the bank’s diverse retail and commercial client base.
What this means for the industry
- Banking and investing are converging. Financial institutions are embedding trading and wealth tools directly into digital banking platforms to create all-in-one financial hubs for customers.
- Community banks are adopting fintech partnerships. Instead of building trading infrastructure from scratch, smaller banks are leveraging fintech platforms like InvestiFi to rapidly deploy new services.
- Customer retention is becoming a key driver. By enabling investing within the banking app, institutions can reduce the flow of customer funds to external brokerage platforms.
- Embedded finance is expanding beyond payments. The model that began with embedded payments and lending is now extending into wealth management and crypto trading services.
- Digital-native customers are shaping product strategy. Younger clients increasingly expect seamless access to banking, investing, and financial education within a single mobile experience.
