Investec Selects Infosys Finacle to Modernise Core Banking Across Multiple Markets

International banking and wealth management group Investec is embarking on a significant technology modernisation programme after selecting Infosys Finacle’s cloud-native banking platform to replace legacy systems across South Africa, the UK, Mauritius and the Channel Islands. The move reflects a broader shift among established financial institutions that are investing in modern, API-driven core banking platforms to improve agility, strengthen data capabilities and prepare for greater AI adoption. Rather than treating digital transformation as a standalone technology initiative, banks are increasingly rebuilding the operational foundations that will support future growth, regulatory demands and increasingly personalised customer experiences.

Investec Moves Away from Legacy Banking Platforms

As part of the multi-country transformation programme, Investec will migrate its existing banking infrastructure to the Finacle Digital Banking Solution Suite, delivered as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) on Microsoft Azure.

The implementation includes Finacle’s Deposits Suite, Lending Suite, Virtual Accounts Management and Liquidity Management solutions, providing the bank with an integrated platform designed to streamline operations across multiple jurisdictions. The transition highlights how large financial institutions are increasingly replacing fragmented legacy environments with unified cloud-native platforms capable of supporting both retail and corporate banking operations.

The transformation also positions Investec to respond more quickly to changing customer expectations while simplifying technology management across its international business.

Modern Core Platforms Are Becoming AI Foundations

While the announcement focuses on core banking modernisation, the longer-term objective extends well beyond replacing legacy technology.

Banks are increasingly recognising that artificial intelligence depends on high-quality, real-time data and modern system architecture. By modernising its core platform, Investec is laying the groundwork for future AI-enabled services, faster product development and more intelligent operational decision-making.

This reinforces the ideas explored in Banks Don’t Need More Data. They Need Better Decisions. Competitive advantage is increasingly determined by how effectively banks transform operational data into meaningful business intelligence rather than simply collecting more information.

Supporting Lending, Corporate Banking and Liquidity Management

The new platform will introduce enhanced capabilities across several key business areas.

The Finacle Lending Suite is expected to help Investec accelerate digital lending while delivering more personalised borrowing experiences. Virtual Accounts Management will simplify collections, payments and reconciliation for corporate clients, while the Liquidity Management solution will provide real-time visibility into cash positions across entities, supporting more informed treasury and working capital decisions.

These capabilities illustrate how modern banking platforms are evolving beyond traditional transaction processing to become strategic business platforms that support operational efficiency, customer experience and commercial growth simultaneously.

Open Architecture Is Becoming a Competitive Requirement

One of the defining characteristics of next-generation banking platforms is their ability to integrate easily with external technology providers.

Finacle’s API-first architecture will allow Investec to connect more efficiently with fintech partners, third-party services and emerging digital ecosystems. Rather than building every capability internally, banks are increasingly assembling best-of-breed technology through open architectures that accelerate innovation while reducing implementation complexity.

This reflects the broader industry trend discussed in The Banks That Master Orchestration Will Beat the Banks That Build Everything. Future banking competitiveness will increasingly depend on how effectively institutions orchestrate technology ecosystems rather than owning every component themselves.

Cloud Modernisation Is Becoming Business Modernisation

Cloud migration has evolved beyond infrastructure efficiency. For banks, it is becoming a strategic business initiative that enables faster innovation, stronger resilience and greater operational flexibility.

By deploying Finacle through Microsoft Azure and the Microsoft Marketplace, Investec gains a scalable cloud environment capable of supporting future growth while maintaining security, availability and regulatory compliance across multiple markets.

The transformation demonstrates that digital modernisation is no longer simply about upgrading technology. It is about creating a technology foundation capable of supporting continuous innovation as banking becomes increasingly digital, data-driven and AI-enabled.
