Mimir Launches Everspring Solutions Following PayEx Acquision

Private equity activity in the European payments sector continues to gain momentum as investment firm Mimir Group launches Everspring Solutions following its acquisition of PayEx’s specialised payments platform. The new Nordic fintech entity is designed to scale merchant payment infrastructure, loyalty solutions, and sector-specific financing services across Northern Europe. By carving out the platform from PayEx, a subsidiary of Swedbank, the transaction allows the business to operate with greater strategic independence while maintaining strong ties to the regional banking ecosystem. The launch of Everspring Solutions reflects a broader trend in which investors are targeting mature fintech assets with established customer bases and repositioning them for accelerated growth in the digital payments market.

Investment firm Mimir Group has officially completed the acquisition of PayEx’s specialised payments platform, launching a new Nordic fintech entity, Everspring Solutions. PayEx, a wholly owned subsidiary of Swedbank since 2017, is a prominent financial services provider in Northern Europe, focusing on billing and debt collection for e-commerce. This transaction is structured as a strategic carve-out where Mimir takes majority ownership of the new venture, while PayEx retains a significant minority stake as a long-term partner. The move is designed to provide the platform with the operational autonomy and capital required to scale beyond its current footprint and accelerate product development in high-growth verticals.

The platform acquired by Mimir powers a diverse range of digital services for merchants and partners. Key features include loyalty solutions such as digital gift cards and value codes, as well as industry-tailored financing and IT solutions. A crown jewel of the acquisition is Medipay, a specialised healthcare payments gateway currently operational in Norway and undergoing rapid expansion across the Nordic region. Mimir has confirmed that the platform’s established customer base and its existing workforce are included in the purchase. To ensure stability, the investment firm has guaranteed “no disruption” for current clients, with all technical services and support structures continuing without interruption.

To lead this new chapter, Nelson Walden has been appointed as the CEO of Everspring Solutions, effective April 1, 2026. Walden joins the company from Visa, where he previously served as the Director of Business Development for the Nordics and Baltics. His appointment signals a clear intent to leverage deep industry connections and payment network expertise to drive regional growth. Walden will work in close collaboration with Raymond Klavestad and Erik Bork, the heads of PayEx and Mimir, respectively, to align Everspring’s strategic direction with the broader Nordic financial ecosystem. Erik Bork, the CEO of Mimir, noted that the platform perfectly represents the type of asset the firm looks to build and scale—combining proven technology with real commercial traction.

As a standalone company, Everspring is now positioned to penetrate new verticals and optimise its technology stack for a broader array of partners. This milestone confirms the ongoing trend in the European financial sector, in which non-core business units of major banks are spun off into agile, private-equity-backed entities to unlock latent value. As Everspring begins its journey in 2026, its success will likely depend on its ability to integrate its loyalty and payment features into a unified “fintech-as-a-service” offering for the evolving Nordic merchant market.

What this means for the industry

  • The transaction highlights the growing role of private equity in reshaping the European fintech and payments infrastructure landscape.
  • Large banks are increasingly spinning off specialised platforms to unlock value and allow them to scale independently.
  • The Nordic region continues to emerge as a global leader in digital payments innovation, driven by strong banking infrastructure and high digital adoption.
  • Platforms combining payments, loyalty programs, and sector-specific financing are becoming attractive fintech-as-a-service offerings for merchants.
  • As fintech consolidation accelerates, partnerships between banks, private equity investors, and payment technology providers are likely to define the next phase of growth in the European financial ecosystem.
