Visa and FirstBank Roll Out New Payment Cards to Deepen Digital Payments in Nigeria

Nigeria’s push toward a cashless economy is entering a new phase as banks and global payment providers increasingly target both affluent consumers and underserved everyday users with more specialised digital payment products. Against this backdrop, Visa and First Bank of Nigeria have launched two new payment cards aimed at expanding digital payment adoption across different layers of the Nigerian market.

Visa and First Bank of Nigeria have introduced two new payment card products in Nigeria as both companies intensify efforts to expand access to digital financial services and support the country’s growing cashless economy.

The launch includes the Visa Flex Signature Card and the Naira Visa Debit Card, with both products designed to serve different customer segments as digital payment adoption accelerates across the Nigerian banking sector.

The Visa Flex Signature Card is aimed at affluent and internationally connected customers seeking smoother cross-border transactions, premium banking benefits, and wider global payment acceptance. Meanwhile, the Naira Visa Debit Card is positioned as an everyday payment solution focused on improving access to secure and reliable digital transactions for mass-market consumers.

Speaking during the launch, Andrew Uaboi, Vice President and Head of West Africa Cluster at Visa, said the new card offerings reflect evolving consumer expectations within Nigeria’s financial ecosystem.

He noted that the partnership with FirstBank is focused on balancing financial inclusion with innovation, while also supporting the continued expansion of digital payment infrastructure across the country.

Uaboi also praised FirstBank’s leadership for its continued investment in payment innovation and commitment to advancing Nigeria’s financial services industry.

The launch comes as Nigeria experiences rapid growth in digital banking and electronic payments, driven by increasing smartphone penetration, fintech adoption, and stronger demand for secure and convenient payment solutions. Banks and payment technology providers across the market have continued to introduce new digital products as competition intensifies within the country’s evolving financial services landscape.
