Conversational banking is rapidly emerging as the next phase of digital banking transformation in Southeast Asia, with banks increasingly looking to replace traditional app navigation with AI-driven interactions. In Malaysia, Tencent Cloud and AI-powered digital bank Ryt Bank are now expanding that shift through a partnership designed to make everyday banking transactions as simple as sending a message. The collaboration combines Tencent Cloud’s large-scale messaging infrastructure with Ryt Bank’s AI banking capabilities, enabling customers to perform transfers and payment-related tasks through natural conversational commands instead of navigating multiple menus inside a banking app. The move also reflects a broader industry push toward “Zero User Interface” banking, where AI assistants become the primary layer between customers and financial services.
Malaysia’s digital banking sector is moving beyond traditional app-based experiences as Tencent Cloud partners with AI-driven challenger bank Ryt Bank to introduce conversational banking capabilities focused on everyday payments and transfers.
Under the partnership, Tencent Cloud’s messaging infrastructure, Tencent Cloud Chat (IM), will power Ryt Bank’s AI-enabled banking platform, allowing users to complete banking actions through simple text or voice-based commands. Instead of navigating multiple menus inside a banking app, customers can execute transactions such as money transfers through a single conversational instruction.
The collaboration reflects a broader industry shift toward what Tencent Cloud describes as a “Zero User Interface” banking model, where AI and conversational technology reduce friction across digital financial services. The approach aims to make banking interactions feel more natural, particularly for mobile-first consumers across Southeast Asia.
Tencent Cloud said its messaging infrastructure is built on technology already used across Tencent’s wider ecosystem, which processes more than 550 billion messages daily during peak activity periods. According to the company, the platform successfully handled a launch-day surge of 50,000 active users for Ryt Bank without experiencing downtime or service disruption.
Ryt Bank has reportedly grown to more than 1.2 million users within seven months of launch, with strong adoption of its AI-powered banking assistant, Ryt AI. The bank is positioning conversational AI as a core part of its customer experience strategy as competition intensifies across Southeast Asia’s digital banking market.
Kenneth Siow, Regional Director for Southeast Asia and General Manager for Singapore and Malaysia at Tencent Cloud International, said the partnership highlights the pace of digital innovation taking place across the region and Tencent Cloud’s continued focus on supporting next-generation digital services.
Wilson Soon, interim CEO of Ryt Bank, said Tencent Cloud’s communication infrastructure has helped the bank manage high-concurrency transaction volumes while supporting the expansion of its AI-led banking services.
