Tanium Introduces Cybersecurity Compliance Framework for Malaysian Financial Institutions

Tanium has launched a new cybersecurity compliance and incident response framework tailored for banks and financial institutions in Malaysia, as the sector faces growing pressure to strengthen cyber resilience and regulatory compliance. The initiative is designed to support alignment with cybersecurity requirements issued by Bank Negara Malaysia, particularly around technology risk management and the protection of customer information.

The framework focuses on helping financial institutions meet the expectations outlined in BNM’s Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) guidelines and its policies governing customer information management and permitted disclosures. As cyber threats targeting the banking sector continue to rise, regulators are increasingly demanding stronger visibility, faster response capabilities, and more robust governance across financial institutions’ technology environments.

According to Tanium, the framework provides real-time visibility into endpoint environments, allowing banks to continuously monitor compliance across devices and systems. It also enables institutions to isolate compromised endpoints quickly, maintain detailed audit trails, and improve incident response coordination for both internal governance teams and regulatory reporting requirements.

The company said the framework is intended to help financial institutions move away from traditional periodic compliance assessments toward a more continuous and proactive security model. Endpoint devices remain one of the most targeted attack surfaces within banking infrastructure, particularly as hybrid work environments and cloud-connected systems expand across the financial sector.

The launch reflects a broader shift within banking cybersecurity strategies, where institutions are increasingly prioritising real-time operational resilience instead of relying solely on retrospective compliance reviews. In markets such as Malaysia, where digital banking adoption and interconnected financial ecosystems continue to accelerate, regulators are placing greater emphasis on institutions’ ability to detect, contain, and respond to threats rapidly.

What this means for the industry

  • Malaysian banks are facing increasing regulatory pressure to demonstrate continuous cybersecurity monitoring rather than periodic compliance reporting.
  • Endpoint security is becoming a major focus area as financial institutions expand digital operations and remote access environments.
  • Real-time visibility and incident response capabilities are evolving into core regulatory expectations across banking infrastructure.
  • Cyber resilience frameworks are increasingly being positioned as operational requirements, not just IT security initiatives.
  • Vendors offering integrated compliance and response tools may see growing demand from banks navigating stricter regulatory oversight and rising cyber threats.
