du Pay and GCash Partner to Enhance Cross-Border Remittances for Filipinos in the UAE

Digital wallets and super apps are rapidly reshaping the global remittance industry by enabling faster and more affordable cross-border money transfers. As millions of migrant workers rely on mobile platforms to send funds home, fintech companies are forming strategic partnerships to create seamless international payment corridors. The collaboration between du Pay and GCash highlights this growing trend, connecting two major digital ecosystems to deliver near-instant remittances between the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines.

du Pay, the digital financial services arm of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance super app. This partnership is specifically designed to revolutionise the cross-border payment experience for nearly 1 million Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) residing in the United Arab Emirates. By linking the robust digital infrastructure of du Pay with the dominant e-wallet ecosystem of GCash, the collaboration ensures that remittances are not only sent with competitive exchange rates but are also received and usable within minutes. This synergy addresses a critical need for the Filipino community, which remains one of the most digitally engaged and active remittance-sending groups globally.

The integration allows for a seamless “end-to-end” financial journey. Once funds are transferred from Du Pay, they are instantly credited to the recipient’s GCash wallet in the Philippines. Beyond simple cash pickup, recipients gain immediate access to the full GCash ecosystem, allowing them to use the sent dirhams for essential services such as bill payments, tuition fees, insurance premiums, and online shopping. This maximises the utility of every remittance, as the money is immediately “productive” within the local Philippine economy. For senders in the UAE, du Pay provides a secure, Central Bank-licensed platform that leverages du’s national mobile infrastructure to offer high-speed, reliable transactions.

The partnership also aligns with the Dubai Department of Finance’s ambitious vision to transition 90% of all transactions in the city to cashless formats by 2026. Overseas Filipinos are known for their rapid adoption of value-added services and promotional offers, and both fintechs plan to launch a series of joint initiatives and specialised offers in the coming months to drive adoption. du Pay’s focus on financial inclusivity ensures that even residents without traditional bank accounts can access comprehensive digital services, including utility payments and mobile recharges, through a single, secure application.

GCash, operated by G-Xchange, Inc., is currently the only $5 billion unicorn in the Philippines and serves as the country’s largest cashless ecosystem. Its mission of financial inclusion mirrors du Pay’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of digital evolution in the UAE. By collaborating, these two market leaders are creating a digital corridor that simplifies the complexities of international money movement. As the UAE continues to solidify its position as a global hub for fintech innovation, such cross-border alliances are becoming the standard for delivering localised, high-value financial solutions to diverse expatriate populations. This milestone confirms that the future of remittances lies in the deep integration of regional super apps that prioritise speed, transparency, and user utility.
