XConnect and SONIO Form Strategic Alliance to Streamline Fraud Defence

XConnect and SONIO have partnered to integrate mobile network intelligence into identity verification workflows, enabling businesses to strengthen fraud detection while maintaining seamless digital onboarding experiences.

The global push for more secure digital onboarding has gained significant momentum as XConnect, a Somos company, announces a technical partnership with identity orchestration leader SONIO. This collaboration integrates XConnect’s advanced numbering intelligence and mobile identity APIs directly into the SONIO Identity as a Service (IDaaS) platform.

The move is specifically designed to support highly regulated industries, including fintech, banking, and online sports betting, by providing a single point of access to critical network-level fraud signals.

Modern enterprises face a dual challenge: they must verify identities with extreme accuracy while maintaining a frictionless experience for legitimate users. To address this, the partnership makes several key XConnect services available within existing SONIO workflows.

These include SIM Swap detection, which identifies if a mobile number has recently been moved to a new device, and MPM KYC Match, which cross-references user data against official mobile network operator records. By centralising these signals, businesses can avoid the technical burden of building and maintaining separate connections to dozens of different global telecommunications providers.

Mark Harvey, the Chief Identity Officer at XConnect, noted that as digital onboarding accelerates and fraud tactics become more sophisticated, organisations require faster ways to maintain trust. He explained that combining flexible compliance workflows with live network data allows enterprises to make stronger decisions while minimising integration effort. This is particularly vital for the iGaming and gambling sectors, where the MPM KYC Match service helps address common issues such as bonus abuse and age verification failures.

The orchestration layer provided by SONIO acts as a sophisticated filter, allowing companies to adapt their identity strategies to different geographic regions and regulatory environments. Xhejn Dule, the Chief Sales Officer at SONIO, stated that giving customers direct access to trusted mobile network operator data within their current workflows simplifies a very complex process.

This unified approach reduces security gaps and minimises call drop-offs, as the verification happens in the background via a single API call rather than through multiple intrusive steps for the end-user.

For banking and fintech firms, the inclusion of “Number Verify” and call forwarding checks provides an additional layer of protection against account takeover attacks. These network-level signals are often more difficult for criminals to spoof than traditional document-based identity checks.

By consuming live network data at scale, enterprises can ensure that the person interacting with their digital platform is indeed the legitimate owner of the associated mobile device.

This partnership underscores a broader trend in the identity industry toward “orchestration,” where multiple data sources are woven into a single, intelligent fabric. As regulations around the world become more stringent, the ability to access global numbering intelligence through a simplified integration is becoming a prerequisite for any business operating at scale. Both companies intend to continue expanding their API capabilities to help organisations stay ahead of evolving risks while keeping the customer experience seamless.
