OakNorth Completes Strategic Monite Deal to Revolutionise Business Finance Automation

OakNorth is expanding its business banking capabilities through the acquisition of Monite’s technology and team, as it moves to embed finance automation tools directly into its digital banking platform.

The digital banking landscape for mid-market enterprises is set for a major functional upgrade as OakNorth announces a strategic transaction with the financial management platform Monite. This deal involves the full transition of Monite’s core technologies and the onboarding of its specialised product and engineering teams. By absorbing these assets, OakNorth intends to embed advanced accounts receivable, accounts payable, and expense management features directly into its existing business banking ecosystem.

This move marks a shift from traditional banking toward “Finance Automation,” a strategy designed to help lower mid-market businesses eliminate the manual labour associated with daily financial operations. Instead of jumping between a bank account and separate accounting software, entrepreneurs will be able to manage their entire cash flow cycle within a single interface. The first wave of these integrated capabilities is scheduled to go live in the second quarter of 2026.

The acquisition brings significant leadership talent to the bank, with Monite co-founder and CEO Ivan Maryasin joining the organisation as the General Manager of Growth for Business Banking. He noted that the strategic alignment between the two platforms creates meaningful opportunities to simplify complex financial tasks for growing companies. By combining the bank’s lending and savings expertise with the fintech’s automation tools, the institution aims to provide a more holistic service to its customer base.

Anna Kuriakose, the Chief Product Officer at OakNorth, explained that the transaction strengthens the bank’s ability to build a platform uniquely tailored to the needs of the lower mid-market. She emphasised that embedding these specific tools into the core offering will remove many of the pain points that business owners currently experience with fragmented financial data. Providing an intelligent banking experience that handles both the storage and the movement of money is a key differentiator in an increasingly crowded digital banking sector.

For the engineering teams transitioning from Monite, the deal represents an opportunity to scale their technology across a much larger balance sheet. The focus for the remainder of 2025 and early 2026 will be the deep technical integration of the two stacks to ensure a seamless user experience. This acquisition underscores a broader trend where digital banks are evolving into comprehensive operating systems for businesses, moving far beyond the basic provision of credit and deposit accounts.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a predictable, automated environment in which financial data flows seamlessly across business functions. As mid-market firms look for ways to increase efficiency in a high-interest-rate environment, the ability to automate accounts payable and receivable becomes a critical survival tool. This strategic move positions the bank not just as a lender, but as an essential partner in the day-to-day operational success of the entrepreneurs it serves.
