Mashreq is accelerating the shift toward insight-driven digital banking in the UAE with the launch of Money Insights inside its Mashreq NEO app. Rather than positioning mobile banking as just a place to check balances or transfer funds, the bank is moving toward a more intelligent financial management experience that actively helps customers understand spending behaviour, track recurring commitments, and improve financial decision-making. The launch reflects a broader regional trend where banks are embedding AI-driven financial wellness tools directly into everyday banking journeys to increase engagement, retention, and long-term customer value.
Mashreq has officially unveiled Money Insights, a fully integrated personal financial management tool embedded within its Mashreq NEO mobile banking application. The new capability serves more than 1.5 million customers across the United Arab Emirates, delivering financial visibility designed to help users monitor spending and make more informed saving and growth decisions. By integrating actionable data directly into the mobile banking journey, the institution is positioning itself as a leader in insight-led digital banking within the Middle East.
The platform is built around two core capabilities: the Activity Tracker and the Subscription Tracker. The Activity Tracker automatically organises transactions into more than 40 distinct categories and provides users with six months of visibility, including month-on-month comparisons and the detection of duplicate charges. Meanwhile, the Subscription Tracker centralises all recurring payments into a single dashboard, allowing customers to identify forgotten or overlapping services and manage their total monthly financial commitments. These tools are supported by intelligent, real-time nudges that provide contextual insights during everyday digital interactions.
Fernando Morillo, Group Head of Retail Banking at Mashreq, noted that the launch reflects a commitment to proactive and insight-driven banking experiences as customer expectations for transparency and control continue to evolve. Chiraag Jogia, Global Head of Customer Value Management, added that while many customers understand their balances, they often lack clarity on spending habits, a gap that Money Insights intends to bridge. Initial feedback has been positive, with over 30,000 customers providing the tool an average rating of 4.6 out of 5. Mashreq views this launch as a scalable foundation for deeper personalisation and more intelligent financial experiences in the future.
What this means for the industry
- UAE banks are moving beyond transactional banking toward financial guidance and behavioural banking experiences.
- Personal financial management tools are becoming a competitive differentiator in digital banking, especially among younger and digitally active customers.
- Features like subscription tracking and automated spend categorisation help banks increase daily app engagement while improving customer loyalty.
- Real-time financial nudges could create new opportunities for banks to personalise savings, lending, and investment products based on user behaviour.
- The launch signals growing demand for embedded financial wellness tools in the Middle East banking sector, aligning the region more closely with digital banking trends already seen in Europe and Asia.
- Data-driven banking experiences are increasingly becoming part of the core banking proposition rather than optional add-on features.
- Mashreq’s early adoption of insight-led banking could place pressure on regional competitors to accelerate their own AI-powered personal finance capabilities.
