Iraq has taken a significant step toward modernising its banking sector with the launch of the country’s first smart banking branch, enabling customers to complete financial transactions without the need for on-site staff.
The initiative was introduced by the International Development Bank (IDB), which announced that the new branch will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering customers continuous access to digital banking services.
Located at the bank’s administrative headquarters on Abu Nawas Street in Baghdad, the smart branch provides what the bank describes as Iraq’s first fully integrated digital banking experience. The facility is open to all customers and allows users to carry out a wide range of banking transactions through automated digital systems.
Through the branch’s advanced digital infrastructure, customers can perform various financial activities within minutes using self-service technology designed to streamline banking processes.
Wissam Al-Amri, Marketing Director at the International Development Bank, said the smart branch reflects the bank’s commitment to improving customer convenience by introducing innovative digital solutions that allow individuals to manage their finances at any time.
He added that the launch represents an important milestone for the Iraqi banking sector, highlighting the growing role of technology in reshaping financial services and strengthening the country’s digital banking ecosystem.
